Omani shepherds say that when the Arabian leopard hunts, he wraps his tail around a tree to anchor himself as he leaps upon his prey. Short-Tail may have a beautiful spotty coat, sharp claws and teeth, he can stalk and he can pounce, but can he perfect this legendary leopard move? Based on a real Arabian leopard from the Arabian Leopard Survey Oman, Julia Gray uses the character of Short-Tail to introduce the concepts of conservation and habitat to a younger audience.
Julia Gray studied under Michael Rosen in his pioneering MA programme in Children's Literature at Birkbeck College, University of London. She is also an accomplished songwriter and composer. She is Head of Classics at a prep school in West London.
Tanya Brett is a leading wildlife sculptor and fine artist.
