Logistics Coordinator

Location: Totnes, Office based

NHBS (www.nhbs.com) is a world-leading online retailer supplying ecology and conservation books and equipment to customers in the UK and around the world and publishes two conservation magazines. We are looking for a logistics coordinator to join our team in Totnes.

Our ideal candidate will be proactive and detail-oriented. You will have a passion for optimising logistics processes, a keen eye for efficiency, and excellent organisational skills. You should thrive in a fast-paced environment, be adept at problem-solving, and have strong communication skills to collaborate with internal teams and external partners effectively.

This role will report to the Logistics Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinating courier and pallet collections efficiently and cost-effectively
  • Advising colleagues on optimal shipping methods and associated costs for shipments worldwide
  • Negotiating and implementing contracts with courier services to ensure competitive pricing and reliable service
  • Preparing import and export documentation per regulations
  • Driving process improvements and overseeing related project initiatives to enhance operational efficiency
  • Working with procurement managers on product selection
  • Planning and analysing budgets and expenditures
  • Staying informed on industry laws, regulations, and company policies to ensure compliance in all logistics operations
  • Resolving complaints and issues regarding the supply chain
  • Feeding back and coaching colleagues to ensure accurate completion of tasks and adherence to operational procedures
  • Undertaking various operational and distribution-related tasks and projects as needed

The ideal candidate will:

  • Demonstrate strong analytical skills with the ability to comprehend and analyse complex processes effectively
  • Have outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Display initiative, a pragmatic approach, and a proactive "can-do" attitude towards problem-solving
  • Be proficient in Excel
  • Have experience in warehouse/distribution, logistics, or operations, demonstrating a solid understanding of the industry
  • Have Experience using Netsuite or similar ERP

Desirable skills:

  • An interest in ecology and conservation
  • German language
  • Dangerous goods safety advisor (DGSA)

Our offer to you:

Office-based position, Salary: £25,000 to £27,500 p.a. (depending on experience), based on a 37.5-hour week Monday - Friday, with the position attracting 28 days holiday p.a. including bank holidays. Benefits include your birthday day off, Employee Assistance Program, enhanced maternity/paternity leave, a generous company pension, free parking, and refreshments. NHBS also offers each colleague up to three paid days for conservation volunteering each year.
